DAYTON, OHIO — Tallgrass, along with Kanin Energy, are pleased to announce their collaboration with Samuel EPC (Samuel) on an innovative waste heat to power project in Ohio. This project is expected to provide ~10 MW of around-the-clock, carbon-free energy starting in 2025.

Working with the project team, Samuel will leverage their combined expertise in industrial decarbonization to support a waste heat to power project that delivers approximately 10MW of power to the University of Dayton — offsetting 100% of its electricity needs and reducing the University’s carbon footprint by more than 70%.
“There’s a growing demand for decarbonized energy, and Tallgrass is committed to identifying existing resources, such as unutilized industrial heat, that can be used to produce decarbonized power,” noted Tallgrass’ Vice President of Power and Transmission, Justin Campbell. He added, “We’re confident we’ve identified the right team for this project and look forward to working with Samuel.”
Leveraging industrial heat from the Rockies Express Pipeline compressor station, the project will generate a new path for decarbonization in the U.S. oil and gas sector. The facility will feature an organic rankine cycle system with an air-cooled condenser designed to recover excess heat from three existing gas turbines; it is expected to be in operation in 2025.
Leading the project’s engineering, procurement, and construction, Samuel brings over three decades of global experience in the energy sector. By integrating the Samuel team early in the design phase, we’re able to ensure project coherence and maximize efficiency in waste heat to power projects.

The project development is supported by Kanin Energy, which is overseeing the collaboration and execution of the waste heat to power project.

The environmental benefits of this project are expected to be over 50,000 tons of CO2 with an expected generation of up to 85,000 MWh of carbon-free energy.
