Inside this issue
According to the Coalition for for Renewable Natural Gas, there are 188 operation Renewable Natural Gas projects in North America with 137 projects under construction and 95 in planning. There are 149, or 35% of all projects, in California due to tax credits and government incentives.
North America RNG Map
RNG, also called "biogas", is sourced from animal manure, landfill gas, food waste, or wastewater and has a variety of uses. Some of these projects are using it to generate electricity while others are creating fuels and other products.
In previous issues, I've touched on landfill gas and Aemetis partnering with Baker Hughes to capture carbon along with biofuel facilities. For public RNG companies, there is a great emissions story with emissions compared to natural gas and other sources. Turning waste into energy is a novel step towards avoiding CO2 and creating new revenue streams.
