Summit Carbon Solution is proposing a $4.5 billion, 2,100 mile CO2 pipeline that would take CO2 from emission sources at ethanol plants in Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Minnesota to store in geological "sinks" in North Dakota.

With ethanol plants spread across several states, Summit Carbon will need to go through state and federal regulatory approval for transporting CO2 from the sources to the storage site in North Dakota.
In early March, Nabors drilled a well for Summit Carbon in Mercer county North Dakota. According to Summit Carbon, this well is one of two stratigraphic test wells to collect data on potential sequestration sites.
In April, Minnkota and Summit Carbon announced a CO2 storage partnership near Center, North Dakota. The likely site is the Minnkota Power Co-Op that will allow Summit to access Minnkota's permitted 100 million ton CO2 storage capacity site. As of right now, this is the largest storage facility in the United States.
