Carbon Mineralization Just Got A Major Boost
44.01 has signed a memorandum of understanding with Sumitomo Corporation and ENEOS Xplora.
The trio is teaming up to advance in-situ mineralization. This is a big step for permanent CO2 storage solutions.

They plan to demonstrate and commercialize the tech in Japan and internationally. The immediate goal is proving performance in the Middle East by 2030.
Most carbon storage injects CO2 into sandstone. This partnership focuses on igneous rock formations instead.
This approach could unlock massive new storage potential. It expands the types of geology we can use to lock away carbon.
44.01 brings deep expertise here. They specialize in mineralizing CO2 in peridotite, a rock found abundantly in both Japan and the Middle East.
You might know 44.01 from Project Hajar in the UAE. That project with Aircapture won an XPRIZE award last year.
They also have a pilot with Holcim to mineralize CO2 from cement production. They are clearly moving fast to tackle hard-to-abate sectors.
ENEOS Xplora is also active in the space. They recently launched a framework for domestic mineralization in Japan with other key partners.
This collaboration combines heavy industrial power with specialized tech. It is a strong move to scale permanent carbon removal globally.
