ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Bioenergy Devco, a leader in the design, engineering, construction, financing, and operation of advanced anaerobic digester systems, has announced that the company is now known as BTS Bioenergy. This name change aligns the organization's U.S. operations with its longstanding European brand and wholly owned subsidiary, BTS Biogas. With over 25 years of experience and more than 250 facilities developed worldwide, BTS Bioenergy boasts a proven track record of transforming organic waste into renewable energy. As part of the BTS brand, the company combines European engineering expertise with local operational know-how to deliver scalable, sustainable solutions across the globe.

Nick Thomas, CEO of BTS Bioenergy, said, "Changing our name to BTS Bioenergy marks a pivotal moment in our journey, one that unifies decades of global expertise and innovative technology. By aligning more closely with BTS Biogas in Italy, we're strengthening our shared vision to lead the world in organic waste transformation and energy creation."
BTS Bioenergy deploys advanced anaerobic digestion technology, an economically viable and sustainable alternative to landfills and incineration, to transform organic waste into renewable energy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and contributing to a circular economy. At its organic recycling facilities, food waste is recycled through a naturally occurring process in which organic materials are broken down by microorganisms. The output is an organic, nutrient-rich soil amendment that can be composted or mixed to create topsoil. The fully enclosed system captures and collects the methane gas released during the process, creating a source of renewable natural gas.
"Together, we are building a more sustainable future through proven technology, operational excellence, and an unwavering commitment to environmental progress," said Thomas.
BTS Bioenergy currently operates the company's flagship North American project, the Maryland Bioenergy Center. In 2024, the organic recycling facility diverted the equivalent of 2,310 garbage trucks from landfilling or land application. The greenhouse gas emissions prevented from being released into the atmosphere are equivalent to those of 10,674 gasoline-powered cars driven for one year. The company plans to continue its expansion in the U.S. throughout 2025.
BTS Bioenergy is a leader in smart organic waste solutions and renewable energy infrastructure. Using advanced anaerobic digestion technology, BTS Bioenergy transforms organic waste into renewable natural gas and nutrient-rich soil products, offering a sustainable alternative to landfilling and incineration. With a strong focus on innovation, community impact, and environmental stewardship, BTS Bioenergy helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions, protect water resources, and support local economies.
