Washington D.C. (WTRF) – The Trump Administration has repeatedly stated that it wants to make America the world’s premiere producer and supplier of energy.
While West Virginia is typically known for coal, there are plans in the works to add hydrogen energy to the Mountain State’s portfolio.
We spoke to Senator Shelley Moore Capito about the status of the Appalachian Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub project. It was officially launched back in August with a 30 million dollar grant from the Department of Energy.
Capito says officials with the project are continuing to work on their planning grant, and says when that process is done more funding opportunities will be available.
“In my view, hydrogen development matches absolutely with the President’s desire to be energy dominant, and so I think we’re in good shape here. For right now we’re definitely in good shape. As we move forward we want to preserve that funding so that we can actually have that hydrogen hub in the regions of West Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania.”
