Pilot Energy and Capture6 are teaming up to bring cutting-edge technology to Western Australia’s Mid West Clean Energy Project (MWCEP).
The companies have entered a joint development agreement to integrate Direct Air Capture (DAC) and advanced water treatment systems at Pilot’s Arrowsmith site.
This collaboration aims to tackle carbon emissions and water scarcity in one ambitious project.

In 2025, Capture6 will begin demonstrating its innovative DAC and water treatment technology at the MWCEP.
The project, backed by a $6.5 million Commonwealth Carbon Capture Technologies Program grant, is part of a joint venture dubbed Project Wallaby.
Capture6 holds an 80% stake in the venture, with Pilot Energy owning the remaining 20%.
The initiative is set to roll out in four phases, aligned with the MWCEP’s development.
“The collaboration demonstrates a forward-thinking approach to sustainable energy and resource management,” said Ethan Cole, co-founder and CEO of Capture6.
Starting in 2025, the initial phase will test Capture6’s DAC technology at the Arrowsmith site.
The focus is on proving the system’s efficiency in removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere while treating water extracted during carbon storage operations.
In 2026, the project will move to Phase 1a, targeting scaled-up operations. This stage aims to monetize the initiative by producing and selling water, low-carbon chemicals, and high-purity CO2.
By 2028 or 2029, Project Wallaby will enter full-scale deployment.
During this phase, the project plans to manage up to 2 gigaliters of treated water annually, while capturing 80,000 tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere.
From 2030 onward, the final phase aims to expand DAC capabilities to remove 350,000 tonnes of atmospheric carbon dioxide each year.
This progression could solidify the project’s role as a global leader in carbon removal.
If successful, the demonstration phase could lower the water treatment costs tied to MWCEP’s carbon storage activities.
This breakthrough would position Pilot Energy to generate additional revenue through the sale of carbon removal credits and by-products such as hydrogen.
“Capture6’s world-leading technology can reduce the cost and environmental impact of the MWCEP’s water handling system,” said Brad Lingo, Chairman of Pilot Energy.

This partnership is more than a technological endeavor; it’s a step toward addressing critical environmental challenges.
As Ethan Cole noted, “We’re thrilled to collaborate with Pilot Energy to not only decarbonize Western Australia but also tackle water insecurity in the region.”
With a dual focus on capturing carbon and providing clean water, the project offers a promising path forward.
The integration of Capture6’s DAC technology with Pilot Energy’s MWCEP reflects a significant move toward sustainable development.
By combining carbon removal with innovative water treatment, the companies are paving the way for a more resilient and eco-friendly energy future.
