Climeworks has long been committed to high quality, durable, and measurable carbon removal. As we wrote last year in “Why Third Party Verification Matters,” while it is critical to increase the supply of carbon removal on the market as fast as possible, reaching the gigaton target should not come at the expense of high-quality criteria. That’s why we are particularly thrilled to share our Orca plant has achieved a groundbreaking BeZero Carbon Rating of AAA. Not only is this the highest rating in the industry, it is also the first time such a rating has been awarded to any project. This marks a significant milestone for both the carbon removal industry and for Climeworks as a leader in the field.

This prestigious rating from BeZero reflects the very high effectiveness of our projects in removing CO₂ from the atmosphere. As a leading independent carbon ratings agency, BeZero’s assessment, supported by a robust team of climate scientists, geospatial experts, and analysts, reinforces the exceptional impact of our work. This achievement sets a new benchmark for the industry and highlights the transformative potential of direct air capture and carbon removal technologies.
A huge shoutout to our partners who have made this achievement possible: our storage partner, Carbfix, whose innovative solutions ensure secure and permanent storage of captured CO₂, and Puro.earth, our certifier, whose rigorous standards and validation have been integral to this success.
With Orca's AAA rating, we're proud to lead the way in direct air capture and carbon removal, showcasing the future of climate action.
