Climeworks Receives First Ever AAA Rating From BeZero Carbon

Climeworks has long been committed to high quality, durable, and measurable carbon removal. As we wrote last year in “Why Third Party Verification Matters,” while it is critical to increase the supply of carbon removal on the market as fast as possible, reaching the gigaton target should not come at the expense of high-quality criteria. That’s why we are particularly thrilled to share our Orca plant has achieved a groundbreaking BeZero Carbon Rating of AAA. Not only is this the highest rating in the industry, it is also the first time such a rating has been awarded to any project. This marks a significant milestone for both the carbon removal industry and for Climeworks as a leader in the field.

As a leading independent carbon ratings agency, BeZero’s assessment, supported by a robust team of climate scientists, geospatial experts, and analysts, reinforces the exceptional impact of our work. This achievement sets a new benchmark for the industry and highlights the transformative potential of direct air capture and carbon removal technologies.
