The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has unveiled an ambitious funding initiative under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), allocating $3.1 billion to accelerate carbon management technologies across the United States.
This significant investment aims to enhance the development and deployment of cutting-edge solutions for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The funding is divided between two major programs:
Each program focuses on addressing critical challenges in carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), with an overarching goal of achieving greater carbon reduction and supporting technology readiness.
The Regional DAC Hubs initiative seeks to establish up to four hubs capable of capturing at least 1 million metric tons of CO₂ annually.
These hubs will integrate DAC technologies with sequestration or utilization strategies to reduce atmospheric carbon effectively.
Topic Area | Maximum Award Size | Number of Awards | Cost Share | Period of Performance |
---|---|---|---|---|
Infrastructure Access Platforms | $250 million | 1-3 | At least 50% | 10 years |
Mid-Scale Commercial DAC Facilities | $50 million | 4-8 | At least 50% | 10 years |
Large-Scale Commercial DAC Facilities | $600 million | 2-6 | At least 50% | 10 years |
This program emphasizes advancing CCUS technologies for power generation and industrial applications.
By addressing technical and economic barriers, the initiative aims to scale up carbon management solutions.

Jeanette Jackson, CEO of Foresight Canada, commented on the importance of initiatives like these, saying, “Cleantech is driving the future of business and productivity, showcasing how innovation and determination can set an inspiring example for global impact.”
The programs are expected to boost confidence in the carbon management sector by offering substantial support for technological development and commercialization.
These initiatives not only aim to meet domestic carbon reduction goals but also position the U.S. as a leader in global carbon management efforts.
With deadlines rapidly approaching, potential applicants should prioritize preparing their submissions to align with the DOE’s specific requirements.
The emphasis on innovation, scalability, and environmental performance makes this funding opportunity a pivotal moment for the carbon management industry.
