Greasezilla's technology extracts nearly pure brown grease from grease trap waste, refining it into biofuel feedstock. This technology plays a pivotal role in creating a nationwide platform for managing fats, oils, and grease (FOG), waste material that was previously incinerated or landfilled. The funding will establish up to 40 new FOG receiving stations with up to $5 million per site, utilizing Greasezilla's proprietary technology.
Grease trap waste is often sent to landfills, contributing to methane emissions and toxic leachate. Greasezilla’s innovative process mitigates these environmental impacts, reducing landfill overcapacity and associated costs. A 2023 report from the Environmental Research and Education Foundation (EREF) highlighted the rising landfill tipping fees across the U.S., driven by overcapacity challenges.
Greasezilla and bp's collaboration combines specialized technology with bp’s biofuel production capabilities, creating a synergy that enhances sustainability efforts. This partnership helps Greasezilla access a global distribution network, while bp gains lower carbon feedstock for meeting the growing demand for SAF.
bp's investment will scale Greasezilla’s operations, integrating them into bp’s global supply chain. Future phases may focus on expanding production capacity and maximizing environmental benefits through advanced technology development. "Bioenergy is one of bp's growth engines," said Nigel Dunn, Senior Vice President of Biofuels Growth at bp, as he emphasized bp’s commitment to increasing biofuel production.
Greasezilla President Ron Crosier shared, "We’ve found a partner in bp who shares our vision for advancing Greasezilla's technology and sustainability goals."
