FIDEM Energy LLC, a developer of biogas‑to‑energy projects, on April 1 announced a strategic partnership with Japan-based Sojitz Corporation to advance U.S. renewable natural gas (RNG) production.
Based in East Tennessee, FIDEM produces and markets RNG generated from landfill gas. FIDEM’s management team has decades of experience in operating solid waste management landfills across the Southeastern United States. Currently, FIDEM owns and operates a landfill‑based RNG facility in Tennessee and holds a broad portfolio of development rights across the Southeast, all of which were previously designed and constructed by Fidem’s management team.

FIDEM has leveraged its extensive operational expertise in landfill systems and experience in developing RNG facilities with a deep network of industry partners to build one of the largest and longest-term privately held landfill gas-to-energy platforms in the nation, and is well positioned to take advantage of growing opportunities to identify, develop and manage RNG projects.
This strategic partnership brings together Sojitz’s strengths in commercialization and global market strategy with FIDEM’s unique technical expertise and operational experience with landfills and renewable energy systems, which will enable FIDEM to accelerate the development of its existing gas rights and the expansion of its RNG platform to execute on operational projects and new development opportunities throughout the United States and Canada.
“Sojitz’s extensive trading expertise and global footprint provide a strong platform for accelerating growth across the US and Canada and emerging Japanese and international markets,” said Ben Johnston, President of FIDEM Energy. “This partnership positions FIDEM to advance its long‑term growth strategy, expanding organically while pursuing targeted acquisitions that strengthen our market position.”
Project development under the new strategic partnership is expected to ramp up immediately, with several new landfill waste to energy facilities beginning construction soon. As demand for sustainable fuels continues to rise across transportation, utility, and industrial sectors, FIDEM aims to deploy over a billion dollars to establish its platform as a leading provider of reliable energy for both domestic and international markets.
