Mombak becomes the first Isometric supplier to list both nature-based and engineered CDR projects
Today, Mombak generated its first carbon removal credits for Enhanced Weathering and registered its reforestation projects with Isometric—becoming the first supplier with both engineered and nature-based carbon removal projects listed on the Isometric Registry.
Mombak is one of the world's leading carbon removal suppliers, with offtakes secured for over 1.8 million tonnes of removal with buyers including Google, McKinsey, and Microsoft. Its Amazonian reforestation project was the first selected under the Symbiosis Coalition's inaugural RFP, with coalition members purchasing 215,000 tonnes of carbon removal.

Mombak’s first carbon removal credits
Project Cajueiro generated Mombak's first carbon removal credits, issued under Isometric's Enhanced Weathering in Agriculture Protocol. This first issuance of 46 credits reflects Mombak's progress as it scales its carbon removal operations in Brazil across multiple pathways.
Project Cajueiro removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by spreading finely ground basalt on agricultural fields using standard farming equipment. The basalt reacts with carbon dioxide dissolved in rainwater, storing it as stable bicarbonate ions, which are ultimately carried by rivers to the ocean for permanent storage. This process also delivers benefits to agricultural land. By balancing soil pH and improving soil health, it boosts crop yields for farmers, supporting local communities.
Carbon removal was quantified under the Enhanced Weathering Protocol’s rigorous requirements, combining direct measurements and sampling of soil and porewater with robust statistical analysis of control and treatment plots. The project was independently validated and verified by 350Solutions, and the data and calculations behind each credit are publicly available on the Isometric Registry.
Reforestation projects registered with Isometric
Building on this issuance and the selection of Isometric as the certifier for its three Enhanced Weathering projects, Mombak has now also chosen Isometric to certify its reforestation work.
Dan Harburg, Chief Product Officer of Mombak, said: "Mombak is working to become the world's largest carbon removal company, starting by reforesting the Amazon. Our buyers expect certification that matches that ambition. Having worked with Isometric on Project Cajueiro, we've seen firsthand the rigor and transparency that underpins their approach. Bringing our reforestation projects to Isometric was the natural next step."
The projects will generate carbon removal credits under Isometric's Reforestation Protocol, the most scientifically rigorous on the market. Isometric independently sets dynamic baselines for suppliers, removing the conflict of interest created by legacy frameworks where suppliers are required to develop their own. All remote sensing data must also be grounded with real-world field measurements, ensuring every credit represents a tonne of carbon dioxide removed from the atmosphere.
In February, the protocol received approval from the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) to issue credits with the Core Carbon Principles (CCP) label—one of the market's clearest independent signals of quality.
Mombak's decision to bring its reforestation portfolio to Isometric reflects a new norm in the market: demand for credits that meet the highest bar for rigor, regardless of project type. We look forward to supporting Mombak as they continue to scale multi-pathway carbon removal.
