New public platform connects organizations, technologies, projects, and field trials to provide a more integrated view of the rapidly evolving mCDR landscape
"This user-friendly platform provides a single portal with an integrated view of the mCDR landscape, making critical information more accessible and transparent for this dynamic field." — Brad Ack, Chief Executive Officer of Ocean Visions
WASHINGTON, DC, UNITED STATES, October 1, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Ocean Visions today announced the launch of its comprehensive new Marine Carbon Dioxide Removal Knowledge Platform, a public, openly accessible tool designed to help researchers, innovators, funders, policymakers, journalists, and other stakeholders stay abreast of the rapidly evolving field of marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR).

The Knowledge Platform is a centralized resource for exploring mCDR organizations, pathways, and field trials. It will help users discover trends and connectivity across the sector to better support collaborations, research, and decision-making. The launch builds on Ocean Visions’ previous work developing and trusted knowledge infrastructure for the mCDR field.
"As the mCDR field has grown, there are more actors, projects, data, and information. But until now, no central repository existed to make this ‘innovation ecosystem’ more visible and accessible," said Brad Ack, Chief Executive Officer of Ocean Visions.
"This user-friendly platform provides a single portal with an integrated view of the mCDR landscape, making critical information more accessible and transparent for this dynamic field," said Brad Ack, Chief Executive Officer of Ocean Visions.
The mCDR Knowledge Platform merges and replaces Ocean Visions’ mCDR Field Trial Database and mCDR Ecosystem Database, which were released in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
The initiative is part of Ocean Visions’ mission to advance potential solutions to counter and reverse climate impacts on ocean health. The biggest threat to the long-term health of the ocean comes from the buildup of greenhouse gas pollution in the atmosphere, which is driving enormous quantities of excess heat and acidity into the ocean.
Addressing this requires both reducing emissions and cleaning up greenhouse gas pollution already in the atmosphere. mCDR approaches harness the natural power of the ocean to capture carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and store it in the deep ocean.
"Marine carbon dioxide removal holds significant promise, so it's important to understand who is doing what, where, when, and how," said Amelia-Juliette Demery, Program Officer at Ocean Visions, who led the development of the platform.
"The mCDR Knowledge Platform helps answer key questions about the field’s activity and enables more rigorous and responsible research and decision-making," said Amelia-Juliette Demery, Program Officer at Ocean Visions, who led the development of the platform.
As the field matures, Ocean Visions’ mCDR Knowledge Platform will evolve alongside it, with regular updates and enhancements to ensure it remains a trusted and valuable resource for the global mCDR community. The Knowledge Platform's submission forms make it possible for users to suggest additions or edits, helping maintain an accurate and up-to-date view of mCDR activity.
