Spiritus, a leading climate tech company, has announced the launch of its first pilot facility for Direct Air Capture (DAC) carbon removal in collaboration with the Nambé Pueblo.
Set to begin operations in late 2025, this facility in Los Alamos, New Mexico, will provide 1,000 tons of carbon removal capacity annually when fully operational.
This milestone marks a key step toward Spiritus’ larger vision of scalable Carbon Orchards, aiming for megaton-level carbon removal.

This project follows the recent opening of Spiritus' manufacturing site, Garden One, in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
Garden One focuses on producing the company’s innovative sorbent material that passively removes CO₂ with greater efficiency and cost-effectiveness than traditional methods.
The New Mexico pilot facility will rigorously test these technologies in real-world conditions while laying the groundwork for Spiritus’ full-scale Carbon Orchard initiative.
According to MATT LEE, CTO and co-founder of Spiritus, “This site will serve as both a proving ground for large-scale CO₂ capture and a model for responsible, community-centered operations. We’re deeply grateful to the people of Nambé Pueblo for partnering with us to drive meaningful progress in carbon removal on their land.”
The Nambé Pueblo Development Corporation (NPDC) has played a significant role in this collaboration, offering the facility space and completing key infrastructure upgrades.
Their efforts also extend to recommending local vendors and services, fostering a partnership that blends technological innovation with cultural stewardship.
CARLOS O. VIGIL, acting CEO of NPDC, emphasized this synergy: “NPDC is fortunate to have come across a company whose mission aligns so closely with our cultural and spiritual responsibilities to protect and enhance our environment. We hope the economic benefits of their presence will extend to our Pueblo and our surrounding communities.”
The pilot facility is expected to create high-skill, sustainable jobs, further supporting the local economy. This includes employing tradesmen, engaging vendors, and offering new opportunities in carbon removal technology.

New Mexico’s leadership in sustainable energy and carbon management is underscored by this collaboration. Senator Martin Heinrich, a proponent of the state’s role in green innovation, praised the initiative.
“Spiritus’ pilot facility demonstrates New Mexico’s leadership in direct air capture technology and leverages our state’s innovation,” said SENATOR HEINRICH. “This project brings sustainable, high-skill jobs to our communities and positions New Mexico as a key player in the future of large-scale carbon sequestration.”
The New Mexico facility is a stepping stone toward Spiritus’ flagship project, Orchard One, in Wyoming. This initiative aims to demonstrate the scalability of their DAC technology with geological sequestration capabilities.
These efforts collectively highlight Spiritus’ commitment to making carbon removal a practical solution to address global climate challenges.
