Toyota Advances Hydrogen Ecosystem With Class 8 Truck Deployments, Certified Stationary Power, and Plans for New Infrastructure

Published by Todd Bush on May 6, 2026

From cars and commercial trucks to the infrastructure that fuels them, Toyota is investing in the growth of the hydrogen economy

LAS VEGAS (May 5, 2026)Toyota Motor North America’s long-term commitment to hydrogen is on full display at the 2026 Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo, where the company outlined its new milestones and investments across commercial trucking, fueling infrastructure, and stationary power generation before an audience of clean mobility industry leaders.

“For those still on the fence about fuel cells, the technology is here—and it’s quite good,” said Thibaut de Barros Conti, vice president, Toyota Hydrogen Solutions. “For a hydrogen society to grow into what it deserves to be, we owe it to ourselves to collaborate as an industry to make it happen. We owe it to ourselves to build this industry up together.”

During the ACT Expo Hydrogen Workshop keynote address, Toyota highlighted:

  • Plans to deploy Toyota fuel cell-powered Class 8 trucks in its commercial logistics fleets by early 2027.
  • A new collaboration with Hyroad that is expected to become one of the largest commercial hydrogen truck deployments in the United States, starting this year.
  • A definitive agreement with Air Liquide to supply fuel for Toyota’s growing hydrogen fleet at the company’s North American Parts Center California (NAPCC) campus. Fueling at NAPCC will begin later this year using a mobile heavy-duty station, to be followed by a permanent station that will serve all fuel cell vehicles of all makes and models, from heavy-duty commercial trucks to light-duty vehicles such as the Toyota Mirai.
  • ANSI/CSA Group FC 1 and FC 6 certification for Toyota’s stationary fuel cell generators, marking an important safety and compliance milestone that will significantly lower the barrier to adoption for organizations looking to power operations with lower emissions, from hospitals and data centers to remote facilities and disaster response sites.
  • Continued development of Toyota’s Gen 3 fuel cell stacks for the North American market, with variants designed for light-duty passenger vehicles, medium-duty construction equipment, stationary power generation and heavy-duty Class 8 trucks. All systems will be engineered to deliver more power and efficiency than current-generation technology.

Onsite Assets at the ACT Expo Include:

  • Toyota fuel cell-powered Class 8 truck available for demonstration rides outside the Las Vegas Convention Center
  • Two Toyota-powered Class 8 trucks in Toyota’s booth space
  • Hyroad fuel cell Class 8 truck
  • Toyota Miral fuel cell electric sedan with Tatsuno dispenser having dual light- and heavy-duty nozzle hardware displayed
  • Stationary power generator
  • Gen 2.5 FC 1- and FC 6-certified fuel cell module
