Valmet Selected for Louisiana Green Fuels Carbon-Negative Power Project

Company's technology to support development of Louisiana Green Fuels as a commercial-scale carbon-negative power facility

Valmet, a leading global developer and supplier of process technologies, automation and services for the energy, pulp and paper industries, was selected by Strategic Biofuels to provide biomass power generation and flue gas cleaning technologies for its Louisiana Green Fuels (LGF) project in Caldwell Parish, Louisiana. The project is designed to integrate carbon-negative power generated from renewable forestry residuals with carbon capture and permanent geologic sequestration to produce deeply carbon-negative electric power.

Under its planned scope of work, Valmet will provide a boiler island featuring a circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler and advanced flue gas cleaning systems. The company's unmatched large-scale proven biomass technologies are designed to support fuel flexibility, operational reliability and environmental performance while helping customers achieve ambitious sustainability objectives.

The LGF project is designed for more than 300 megawatts of gross generating capacity. At full buildout, the project is expected to annually consume more than 3.5 million tons of sustainably sourced forestry residuals, approximately 400 truckloads of biomass per day. The project's post-combustion carbon capture and sequestration system is designed to capture and permanently store carbon dioxide in a fully permitted geologic reservoir.
