Over the past 18 months, technology upgrades have more than doubled CO₂ capture performance in upgraded collector containers while reducing operating costs by more than 50%.
Zurich, Switzerland | September 10th, 2026 – Climeworks today announced significant performance improvements at Mammoth, its direct air capture and storage facility in Iceland.
Drawing on insights gained through 18 months of operation, upgrades to the company's sorbent and plant design have more than doubled CO₂ capture performance in upgraded collector containers under real-world operating conditions. The first upgraded collector containers are now achieving their expected design performance, while operating costs have been reduced by more than 50%.

The results demonstrate how operating large-scale direct air capture facilities and a world-class innovation center can accelerate technology improvements, reduce costs, and help validate the next generation of direct air capture systems.
