Published by Teresa on June 25, 2026

OMV Petrom SA concluded a sales contract with OMV Downstream GmbH, a fully owned subsidiary of OMV AG, for part of the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) to be produced in Petrobrazi refinery.

The contract was concluded for a period of five years, with the possibility of extension for five additional years, with deliveries to begin in 2028. Pricing is based on a formula that is indexed to international quotations and transaction details follow arm’s length principles.

The maximum total quantity of the contract is 360,000 metric tons, of which at least 200,000 metric tons SAF, with an estimated total value of over EUR 800 million at recent market quotations.

This transaction allows OMV Petrom to maintain flexibility to capture additional opportunities on the Romanian market and in the region, while securing the placement of part of its future biofuels production toward additional airports in Central and Eastern Europe. The company will continue to be one of the largest SAF suppliers for airports in Romania.

OMV Petrom’s SAF/HVO program currently in execution at Petrobrazi involves total investments of EUR 750 million, of which EUR 560 million for the construction of the SAF/HVO unit and EUR 190 million for the two green hydrogen production facilities. The new SAF/HVO unit, with an annual capacity of 250,000 tons, has more than 80% of feedstock secured for the first 8 years.
